Bioplastics is one of the rapidly developing segments of today's market. This results from the effort to replace petroleum-based plastics with materials made from renewable resources, or even waste. Another desirable property of these materials is compostability. These are the plastic materials of the future which will cease to be one of the causes of environmental pollution, be it on land or at sea. Having at our disposal the state-of-the-art laboratory equipment and facilities of the Faculty of Chemistry of BUT, we help industrial companies to develop these materials.
Our laboratory focuses on transforming biopolymers and non-petroleum-based processing aids into industrially applicable plastics. Our objective is to understand the relationship between the structure and properties of biopolymers and bioplastics, thus providing qualified assistance when searching for new solutions for companies dealing with plastic materials.
Our services to industrial companies are based on three types of activities.
One of the well-established and effective ways of cooperation with the industry is contractual research – i.e. the industry's commission for carrying out specific, previously authorised experiments, methods and consultations often leading to improving, fixing or optimizing the given technology.
More extensive projects are better implemented by means of aid schemes, in which case our centre usually assumes the role of co-investigator or supplier (in case of innovation vouchers). We cooperate with dozens of both Czech and foreign companies, some of which are listed below.
We cooperate with dozens of Czech and international companies, some of which are listed below.
Besides the cooperation with the industry and research institutions, we naturally carry out our own research as well. Thanks to the combination of our scientific research and the state-of-the-art equipment of our laboratory and the affiliated institutions, we keep expanding our offer of services.
At the same time, we regularly cooperate with students on their bachelor's, diploma and dissertation theses. These currently concern mostly the development of matrixes on the basis of P3HB, PLA, starch and other biodegradable components.
